Horizon Zero Dawn Fans Divided Over Horizon 3 Release Update

It has been just three years since Horizon Forbidden West launched, yet fans are already buzzing with anticipation for the return of Aloy in what many hope will be the trilogy’s final chapter.

The franchise began in 2017 with Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games’ groundbreaking action RPG that immediately captivated players. Stepping into the shoes of Aloy—a skilled hunter navigating a world dominated by machines—gamers were drawn into its unique blend of storytelling, exploration, and combat. The game’s critical and commercial success quickly paved the way for its 2022 sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.

The Question of Horizon 3

With the series rumored to be a trilogy, expectations are naturally high for a third installment. Since the release of Forbidden West, Guerrilla has kept fans engaged with additional DLC content and the VR spin-off Horizon Call of the Mountain. However, official word on Horizon 3 remains elusive.

Last year, gaming insider Jason Schreier reported that the sequel may arrive later than many had anticipated. According to him, Guerrilla’s online multiplayer project set in the Horizon universe will launch before the next mainline entry. Schreier also noted that Horizon 3 is still “a ways off,” urging fans to remain patient.

Mixed Reactions from the Community

The news has left the fanbase divided. While some are excited about the upcoming multiplayer spin-off, others are disappointed by the long wait for the single-player narrative. Discussions on the r/HorizonForbiddenWest subreddit highlight this split sentiment.

One fan questioned the expectations surrounding the release, writing:

“When exactly did we expect it to be out? It hasn't even been so much as teased yet.”

Meanwhile, another user, commanderr01, shared a more optimistic outlook:

“I don’t mind waiting at all, but every time they push it back my expectations do go up a tad.”

Some players argue that a delay could ensure the game’s quality, saying it’s “better later than undercooked,” while others admit that the lack of updates feels “disappointing.”

The Road Ahead

While the wait for Horizon 3 continues, it’s clear that Guerrilla Games is carefully balancing fan expectations with development priorities. Whether the extended timeline results in a more polished experience remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the world of Horizon still has players captivated.
