Microsoft is signaling the end of its Xbox Series X|S era as the company shifts focus toward the next generation of consoles. With the ROG Xbox Ally set to launch soon, Xbox Partner Head of Design, Carl Ledbetter, has shared reflections on the current generation while teasing what lies ahead.
In a LinkedIn post, Ledbetter highlighted how the Series X and Series S were built to “empower people to play and connect with others.” He described the consoles as products designed with “Intelligent Geometry”—a philosophy centered on precision, craft, and innovation.
According to Ledbetter, the Series X was created to deliver unmatched power for the modern living room, while the Series S reimagined what a next-gen console could be—compact, accessible, and performance-driven.
Although he confirmed the Xbox Series X|S journey is coming to a close, Ledbetter hinted that his team is already working on what’s next. While details remain scarce, he expressed excitement about the future of Xbox hardware and the innovations waiting in the wings.
The message is clear: Microsoft is preparing for a new chapter in its gaming journey, with the next-gen Xbox era now firmly on the horizon.
