Jason Statham’s $760 Million Action Hit Dominates Netflix

When it comes to high-octane cinema, Jason Statham has built a reputation few actors can rival. Known for his intense screen presence and gritty performances, Statham has been a cornerstone of modern action films since the early 2000s. By 2017, his movies had already amassed more than $1.5 billion at the global box office, cementing his place among Hollywood’s most bankable stars.

Jason Statham’s Rise to Action Stardom

Statham’s big break came when filmmaker Guy Ritchie cast him in the cult-favorite British crime thrillers Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000). These films not only performed well commercially but also launched Statham into international recognition. Soon after, he became the face of The Transporter trilogy (2002–2008), establishing himself as one of the definitive action heroes of his generation.

Over the years, Statham continued to headline adrenaline-fueled projects, including Crank (2006), The Bank Job (2008), The Mechanic (2011), and the monster blockbuster The Meg (2018). Alongside his solo hits, he also shined in major franchises like The Expendables (2010–2023) and Fast & Furious, where he later co-starred in the successful spin-off Hobbs & Shaw (2019).

Hobbs & Shaw Takes Over Netflix

Directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2), Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw pairs Statham’s character, Deckard Shaw, with Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs in a globe-trotting showdown. The duo faces off against Brixton Lore (played by Idris Elba), a cybernetically enhanced villain determined to unleash a deadly virus on humanity.

The star-studded cast also features Vanessa Kirby as Hattie Shaw, Helen Mirren as Queenie Shaw, and appearances from Roman Reigns, Eiza González, Cliff Curtis, Eddie Marsan, and more.

Now, six years after its release, Hobbs & Shaw is surging in popularity again. As of August 18, the film sits at number three on Netflix’s Top 10 movies in the United States, outperforming classics like Furious 7 and family hits like Hotel Transylvania 3 and Despicable Me 2.

Why Audiences Still Love Hobbs & Shaw

Although it may not be considered the crown jewel of the Fast & Furious saga, Hobbs & Shaw stands out as one of Statham’s signature films. Packed with explosive stunts, sharp humor, and the undeniable chemistry between Statham and Johnson, the movie embodies everything fans love about modern action cinema. Its blend of spectacle and charisma makes it endlessly rewatchable—and a true showcase of Jason Statham’s star power.
